From by-product to high-value feed or food – Dapibuset’s sustainable solution
Dapibuset is developing a technology that enables local production of a protein-rich alternative to soy. Using advanced fermentation, farmers and producers such as bakeries can turn surplus crops and by-products into sustainable protein – directly on their own farms or in their facilities.
“Soybeans only grow in a few countries – mainly the USA, Brazil, and Argentina. This makes Europe highly dependent on imports,” says Lidia García Pou, CEO of Dapibuset. “Our solution is based on advanced biotechnology, but also on the understanding that soy cannot remain a sustainable option in a world with a growing population and increasing demand for animal feed.”
Feed produced directly on the farm
Dapibuset is one of the companies in Krinova’s incubator, and its name originates from the Latin word for protein. The company was founded in 2023 by Lidia García Pou and Micael Simonsson, both with many years of experience from Tetra Pak.
With their concept Dapibuset Feed, the company aims to reduce environmental impact, improve the nutritional value of feed, and pave the way for more efficient and climate-smart agriculture.
“Our goal is to provide a process for producing locally sourced, high-value protein that can replace soybeans as a sustainable source of nutrition for both people and animals. We started with feed but also see great potential for fermentation within the food industry. Today, our business has two branches – a complete ‘from farm to fork’ solution,” explains Lidia.
Support from Krinova
Throughout their journey – from idea to where they stand today – Dapibuset has received support and guidance from Krinova’s business designers Klara Lindström and Massimiliano Pattara.
“Working with Dapibuset is inspiring. They are professional, knowledgeable, and ambitious, while also combining visionary thinking with a strong sense of practicality. They represent a vital piece in the systemic shift needed to make healthy food and circularly produced animal feed a natural part of the future,” say Klara and Massimiliano.
Lidia García Pou describes Krinova as more than just an incubator:
“When you’re a startup, there’s a lot of uncertainty to navigate. The team at Krinova believed in our mission, challenged us, and connected us with the right people and new opportunities. That has helped us move faster — and never feel alone along the way.”
Pilot plant inaugurated in Blentarp
Dapibuset is based in Blentarp, outside Lund in southern Sweden, where its pilot plant was completed in August 2025. Today, the company has seven employees, some of whom combine academic research positions with their work at Dapibuset.
“There’s a lot happening right now, and interest is growing rapidly. The key is to navigate wisely among all the opportunities,” Lidia concludes enthusiastically.
