Krinova launches Food Studio – a new innovation environment for the future of food

On 1 September, Krinova Food Studio was launched in Kristianstad, a new meeting place and innovation environment where entrepreneurs, companies, academia and the public sector can come together, test ideas and develop food solutions for the future. The launch brought together around one hundred participants from different parts of the food sector, from startups to some of Sweden’s largest companies.

The food sector is facing significant changes related to sustainability, technological development and new consumer needs. This increases the need for environments where new ideas can be tested, developed and put into practice. Krinova Food Studio creates a place for exactly this.

“For many years, Krinova has worked together with companies, the public sector, academia and entrepreneurs to strengthen innovation within the food sector. Krinova Food Studio is a natural continuation of that work. Here, ideas can meet knowledge, experience and new perspectives, allowing them to develop faster and go further,” says Hannes van Lunteren, Head of KrinovaFood.

From idea to market

Krinova Food Studio combines an approved food testing kitchen with innovation support and spaces for collaboration and knowledge exchange. But the initiative is more than a physical place.

Here, entrepreneurs, startups and established companies can develop products, services and new ways of working together with researchers, students, the public sector and other actors in the food system.

The aim is to strengthen the entire innovation chain, from early ideas and startup companies to established organisations that want to develop new products, services and ways of working.

Over the past five years, around 300 entrepreneurs and companies in north-eastern Skåne have strengthened their competitiveness and growth with support from Krinova. At the same time, a further couple of hundred companies from across Sweden, primarily within the food sector, have participated in innovation and growth programmes. Food Studio creates further opportunities to test ideas, develop products and accelerate innovation close to the market.

“Kristianstad has a unique position as a municipality with a strong food sector, and Krinova is an important player in this. Through Krinova Food Studio, we are strengthening north-eastern Skåne’s ability to bring together expertise, create new collaborations and contribute to sustainable growth. Krinova Food Studio is an investment in the development of the food sector – not only locally, but also regionally and nationally,” says Charlotte Nygren-Bonnier, Chief Executive of Kristianstad Municipality and Vice Chair of Krinova’s Board.

Around one hundred gathered for the launch

Representatives from IKEA Food, Granngården, The Green Dairy, SLU, Kiviks Musteri and Region Skåne were among those present at the launch, together with entrepreneurs, companies and partners from Krinova’s community.

The programme included a panel discussion about the opportunities for innovation and collaboration that Krinova Food Studio creates. During a guided tour, participants also had the opportunity to meet entrepreneurs from Krinova’s programmes and discover innovative food products from Angry Camel, Nothing Fishy and Aigu Matcha, among others.

“No single actor has all the answers. Krinova Food Studio brings together entrepreneurs with new ideas, companies with resources and experience, researchers with new knowledge and decision-makers who can create the conditions for change. Each of us can achieve a great deal on our own, but it is when we connect our perspectives that innovation truly happens,” says Hannes van Lunteren.
